Black Powder Results
The final Black Powder Cartridge Rifle Silhouette match of the 2011 season at McDonald Sportsmen’s Club was fired on November 5th. Everyone was prepared for the below freezing temperatures when the match began, but were pleased when it rapidly climbed more than 30° during the day. All the match and class winners were pleasantly surprised when, at the awards ceremony, they each received an additional prize of assorted chocolates, which will become a yearly tradition for the last match of the season.
Only one shoot-off was required and it was between Ohio shooters Ross Arnfield and Jim Radcliffe for the winner of the Iron Sight class. As per tie breaking rules, they both shot off-hand at chicken silhouettes which are at 200 meters. They each took a few sighting shots and then began shooting their five record shots all within seven minutes (shooters are not permitted to return to their sight in target after going for record). Arnfield downed his first target and Radcliffe missed, then Radcliffe hit his second silhouette and Arnfield missed. Each one alternately hit and missed each successive target. This rewarded Arnfield with the win, downing three out of five targets to Radcliffe’s two out of five. Steve Maurer took the 3rd Iron Sight position outright and Bob Bloyer won 1st Master. Roy Robinson won AAA class with Mike Shamonsky and Rudy Kovacevich taking 2nd and 3rd AAA respectively. AA Class was won by Loren Brown.
Pennsylvanian Brian Chilson (multiple National BPCR Silhouette Iron Sight and Scope Champion) with the help of his wife Debbie, who is also his dedicated spotter, won the Scope class and Tim Torson won the group #2 Scope class in the modified Lewis scoring system.
